Due to the rise of CBD in the market it is normal to raise questions about what CBD is and what is different from THC or marijuana.
In order to place ourselves as a specific term, the most important thing is to understand what the cannabinoids. The CBD is a cannabinoid called cannabidiolAnd, the THC, another cannabinoid called tetrahydrocannabinol. Cannabinoids are chemical compounds formed by a group of molecules that interact with the receptors of the endocannabinoid system of the human body and also most animals.
They can produce both plants and the body itself: cannabinoids that are naturally generated in the body of humans and animals are called endocannabinoids, while cannabinoids produced naturally by plants are called phytocannabinoids. The CBD and THC are the two most popular cannabinoids (or phytocannabinoids) of the more than one hundred cannabinoids that make up cannabis, in addition to being the most abundant of the plant. As for the endocannabinoid system, It is a system of communication between cells that resides in the body of people and the rest of the mammal animals.
It is formed by endocannabinoids and endocannabinoid receptors that interact with each other when the body generates endocannabinoids, and which in turn is responsible for processing the phytocannabinoids absorbed by the body. Its role is fundamental in the nervous system and regulates different biological processes. We now know that the cannabis plant contains CBD and THC, but in turn, CBD is also on the hemp plant (which is not the same as marijuana). THC, however, only produces the cannabis plant.
Hemp plant and cannabis plant (known as marijuana) are two species of different plants that belong to the same family: Cannabis Sativa.
Although they may seem the same, their differences reside in their chemical structure:- Not all cannabis plants contain the same concentrations of CBD and THC. The plants of CBD or CBD cannabis are those that come from strains of cannabis plants with almost non-existent or very low levels of THC, but with high percentages in CBD.
- As for marijuana plants, it is generally expected to contain high percentages of THC, either with medicinal or recreational objectives.
- The hemp plant contains high concentrations of CBD without THC. It is also known as industrial hemp and has always been cultivated to obtain its raw material in different forms such as oils, cellulose or fibers.
For CBD to be in Spain It cannot exceed 0.3 per cent of its THC content and products have to proceed from authorized crops and seeds certified by the European Union.
The main difference between CBD and THC It's just that CBD is not psychotropic (“do not place” or alter perception) while THC is.
Both phytocannabinoids have the ability to interact with our body through the endocannabinoid system but each one does it in a very different way: CBD is psychoactive but not psychotropic, so it does not produce the effects known as “colocon”. THC, for its part, is psychoactive and psychotropic, which means it has the ability to interfere in the central nervous system and alter perception.
In turn, cannabidiol is attributed the beneficial principles for health that are the same ones that give name to the well-known “medical marihuana”. It is due to its therapeutic potential that we find CBD products in many pharmacies, for example in the form of oils, creams or balms.
However, although the most popular use is recreational, THC is also awarded analgesic and relaxing properties, among others. Another notable difference between one and the other is that while THC can create dependency, CBD does not generate any kind of addiction. In short, CBD is a cannabinoid called cannabidiol, and, THC, another cannabinoid called tetrahydrocannabinol. Both come from the cannabis plant but CBD can also be extracted from the hemp (which does not contain THC).
The main difference between the two is that THC causes psychotropic effects (“coloca”), unlike CBD, which is attributed to numerous therapeutic properties.
In Spain, CBD products are legal while THC content does not exceed 0.3 per cent and come from EU-certified crops, while THC or marijuana is illegal.
